Dictocracy -- Dictatorship in Democracy
A father was talking to his kids. "You do your exams well, we will either go on a cruise or road trip ".
The delighted kids promptly followed and came back with excellent grades. Both of them yelled "Cruise".
The father hesitatingly asked "Why not Road trip?". The elder kid said "Why did you ask us to choose?"
"I wanted to know what interests you more, but road trip makes more sense. We can go more places where as with cruise, its only one place and most of the time watching the sea", Father said.
When the mother looked at the father, he snapped his fingers to convey their lack of budget for the cruise.
The mother understood and pulled the younger kid into her arms and then said.
"I am always okay either for cruise or road trip. My vote doesn't count. Obviously your two votes have won against dad, but you are too young to for cruise. They might not let you to all the places in the ship. You will feel bored. Probably an year or two later, you can have real fun. So let us do the road trip this time"
The younger kid was not happy with her answer but did not make an attempt to question back.
The elder kid said "If you promise on cruise, next year, I am okay for road trip this time"
Finally the father managed to get what he wanted, without much trouble.
The father initially used a democratic approach to let the kids do the exams well, but when it came to hold his promise, his dictatorship over ruled democracy smoothly with the help of his ally, his wife.
Though it appears to term him as a rude dictator, his helplessness with the money made him do that. At-least deep in his heart he also wanted to keep the kids happy by opting for cruise.
One can understand his helplessness. In a family system, everyone trust and care for others In spite of these unseen hurdles.
If this were to boil down to the democratic election system in our country,
The "parents/leaders" of our country "caress" the "kids/voters" to reciprocate with excellent "grades/votes"
In return they promise "everything and anything" the "kids" do not even dream of.
(Be it, Loan Waivers, subsidized stuff, free money for Below Poverty Line people).
Now with power in hands, when its time to keep up the promise, they start of with all
kind of excuses for not being able to hold their promises.
The pathetic part is, they turn authoritative and dictatorial on the people's welfare and agenda.
Everything works on their 'will' at the expense of our money.
A politician dares to resign and re-contest at the expense of our money if he/she is not given the due "credit". For having that liberty, why is that the citizen cannot exercise a recall vote on the same politician when turns he a dictator in his own constituency?
This dictator mania turned into a tyranny, where only politician's kith and kin only have "true sense of philanthropy". Strange that no one else did not and cannot have the same level of eagerness, the politician's lineage has.
Since the days of independent India, of all the freedom fighters only few share the limelight and
demand the right to serve the people irrespective of their capabilities.
When the so called political parties which are supposed to be policy-centric, turn out to be
person-centric, the interests of the nation are on the back burner.
It would be highly embarrassing to say that the country lacks intellectuals who can define the
destiny of the country. Unfortunately the talent is not neither allowed nor encouraged in the forefront.
Perhaps one man dared to hand pick a great economist to prove its still possible.
The country needs great lawyers, economists, scientists and great administrators as Policy Makers. Certainly NOT business minded people who only think of self-interest ahead of national interest.
As a ray of hope we do have a few at the higher level. But the same level of class and quality is not found at the grass root level.
The bottom is majorly controlled/dictated by ruthless business people and anti-social elements.
Becoz of these pollutes, a country which is supposed to run, is not even walking, but just limping.
They work for the people, but not with the people. They decide what is good for the people, without a consensus. They rather dictate what really "benefits" for the people, with their own
secret behind the screen self-interests.
When life is lead with compromise, the weaker is always crushed, the mightier always cherishes.
Lack of quick and strict punishments is a catalyst for "taken for granted/ let it go" attitudes.
Ignorance and not so concerned mentality of the general public had made these leaders to riders.
They just ride on the people until its time for "old wine new bottle" promises
Fool Me once, shame on you,
Fool Me twice, shame on me,
Fool Me n times, shame on my existance.
Unless, Questioning rather than complaining happens, Dictocracy (Dictatorship in Democracy) continues.
